Sometimes people recognize me from my youtube videos. It’s awkward. Now people are following me on tumblr, which means there is a greater potential that i’ll be recognized. Scary! It’s happened multiple times since I moved to Oly. I’ve even had people scream my name from across the room, and…
Wow.. so you’re, like, a celebrity now? Does this mean that you can introduce me to Ellen Page???
New York is considering a law requiring certain companies to offer partners of gay employees health benefits, Chicago.GoPride.com reports. (Good thing!)
The Salvation Army is threatening to close New York soup kitchens and reject other projects benefitting the homeless if this legislation passes. (Very, very bad thing.)
The potential bill is going very strong in New York, but because of the Salvation Army’s strong evangelical roots, the charity would take away the $70 million per year it gives in city funding.
With soup kitchens, shelters, foster care programs, and HIV services the Salvation Army is one of the largest private aid groups in New York serving some 5 million people annually.
The Salvation Army has several multiyear contracts with the city totaling $250 million. Six city contracts worth $12.8 million are to expire June 30, by which time the bill may be law.
This is such a low blow.
I understand the Salvation Army is founded on tenets of faith, therefore homosexuality is bad, all that jazz. Whatever. But I’m pretty sure it’s going strong in other places where laws regarding gay issues lean to the left.
The Salvation Army is painting itself in an extremely negative light with this one. I’m sure it will lose a great deal of funding and manpower if word about this bigotry gets out to larger news sources.
